Telehealth or online therapy allows us to meet through audio and video over the internet, similar to Skype or Facetime.
Prior to your session, you’ll be sent a link for the video session. It is a secure link that can only be used one time for our scheduled session. Click on it when our session is scheduled to start, or open it through the ‘Telehealth by SimplePractice’ app for free on iTune or Google Play. You can use the camera and audio on your computer or mobile device.
I’m very excited about this new option because it means no waiting and travel time. And, research comparing treatment outcomes from telehealth and in-person therapy found that the results are the same. In other words, you will get better regardless of whether you choose to do online or in-person sessions. Plus, telehealth is 100% HIPAA compliant and secure.
At this time, I am able to see clients via telehealth who are physically located in California and Pennsylvania, because I am licensed in those two states. I am working on getting my Colorado license, and I hope to offer telehealth to Colorado residents within the next few months.
Please note that telehealth and in-person sessions are billed at the same rate of $185/hr, and payment is expected at the time of service. After each session, you will receive a superbill that you can submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. Insurance companies typically reimburse telehealth at the same rate as in-person sessions, but please call your insurance company prior to your first session to verify.
