FAQS

Questions about what it’s like to work together?

Here are some of the most common questions I get from individuals about therapy. If you don’t see your question answered below, please contact me.

  • I included the treatment descriptions so you can see what I offer, however, we’ll decide together during your intake which treatment is right for you.

  • I don’t accept any insurances, and I’m unable to see anyone who has a Medicare or Medicaid policy. I am a provider with Modern Health EAP. You can check if your employer offers Modern Health benefits as part of your health care package.

I am considered an Out-of-Network (OON) provider for all insurances. Clients with OON benefits pay in full at the time of service, but once reimbursed by insurance they typically end up paying a price that is comparable to in-network providers. Here’s what to ask your insurance company:

-- Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?

-- Is coverage based on a “usual and customary rate” for certain CPT codes (common codes = 90837, 90834), or the full rate that the therapist charges? If it’s the usual and customary rate, ask what that amount is.

-- What is my out-of-network deductible and has it been met?

-- What percentage is covered by insurance once my out-of-network deductible is met?

-- How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover? Are there any limitations?

    -- Is pre-certification required before I start?

Please contact your insurance to verify the details of your plan and reimbursement rates prior to setting up therapy.

Again, I’m unable to see any clients who have Medicare or Medicaid, even if they are secondary or supplemental policies.

I understand it can be very frustrating when a provider doesn’t accept insurance. I used to accept several insurances, but unfortunately it became very hard to manage a solo practice while dealing with insurance companies. • My rate is $220/hour.

You can opt for 90 minute sessions at $330/session.

The only sliding scale sessions I offer are through Open Path Collective.

  • No, all sessions are virtual. I don’t have any plans to resume in person sessions.

  • Your first session is not ‘therapy,’ but instead an initial intake that allows me to get a good grasp of your needs, and you to get a sense of what it will be like to work together. You won’t be asked to share anything too personal or detailed; in fact, I prefer to save the details for our future work together. If I ask you a question you’d rather not answer, you can simply ask to save that topic for later.

  • That varies widely, based on your goals, treatment plan, and how you view therapy. If you want to come for a specific treatment, or possibly need to plan ahead for time or financial constraints, we can set a session limit during our intake and plan accordingly. Most treatments typically last for 5-15 sessions plus the initial intake.

Many people view therapy as part of their ongoing wellness plan, and they prefer to continue meeting regularly on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis, or for a series of booster sessions as needed. Given today’s world, the benefit of having your therapist available when you need them, and the difficulty in finding a new therapist, I typically recommend approaching treatment with flexibility if possible.
