Therapy for depression & anxiety

PROVIDING HIGH QUALITY ONLINE THERAPY FOR INDIVIDUALS AGES 18+

It can be so difficult to live with depression and anxiety.

Depression can present very differently in different people. Maybe you’re high functioning, and unless you share, no one knows that something is wrong. Or, perhaps it’s nearly impossible for you to leave the bed let alone take care of basic tasks. Maybe you’re somewhere in the middle, and you do what’s needed but you have nothing left to give to yourself, your relationships, or things that typically matter to you.

Some people start their day with a panic attack or immediate thoughts of what negative things the day may hold. Others struggle to fall asleep at night because they replay their actions and interactions from the day. Some people worry about one specific thing and others have anxiety about nearly everything. A common ground for nearly all anxiety sufferers is the combination of very uncomfortable physical sensations along with negative thoughts about the past and future.

Maybe you’re noticing:

  • Feeling sad or empty, worthless, hopeless about the future

  • Decreased energy, motivation, interest in things you used to enjoy

  • Difficulty concentrating, remembering, making decisions

  • Withdrawing from relationships, struggles with communication

  • Problems with sleep or appetite, pain or digestive issues

  • Nervousness, restlessness, panic, or dread

  • Rapid heartrate, rapid breathing, panic attacks

  • Problems with communication and relationships, increased irritability

  • Thoughts of suicide or self-harm

You can feel better. You don’t need to do this alone.

HOW THERAPY FOR DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY WORKS

There are numerous research-backed treatments for depression and anxiety that have had many decades of positive outcomes. Here are the treatments I offer for depression and anxiety:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a solution-based treatment developed by Dr. Aaron Beck in the 1960s, and has been revised and rigorously researched over the past 60 years. CBT caters to each person’s values, goals, and problems, and the overarching purpose of CBT is to teach clients skills they can practice in and out of sessions throughout treatment, so they can eventually be their own therapist. Weekly sessions are initially recommended, progress is measured regularly, and treatment length can vary from 8-10 sessions or longer. Click HERE for more information on CBT.

TEAM-CBT

Developed by Dr. David Burns and based on over 30 years of research, TEAM uses Testing to make sure we’re on the right track in terms of progress and goals; Empathy to make room for an accurate and compassionate understanding of your unique problem or situation; Assessment to look closely at any resistance or barriers to moving forward; and Methods which draw from 12 modalities such as CBT, mindfulness, exposure, and more. Weekly sessions are initially preferred, and length of treatment for TEAM-CBT can last for a couple months or longer. Click HERE for more information on TEAM-CBT.

Behavioral Activation

Behavioral Activation (BA) is a first-line treatment for depression that shifts away from thoughts and feelings and is firmly focused on changing from unhealthy behaviors and environments to healthier ways of being. BA is highly effective, collaborative, and leads to long-term positive results. Weekly sessions are initially recommended, and length of treatment varies from 10-12 sessions or longer. Click HERE for more information on BA.

Support and Understanding

Compassion, empathy, support, and understanding are the foundation of each treatment and every session. Although I do use specific treatments in my practice, my relationship with each client is at the core of every treatment.

FAQS

Common questions about therapy for depression & anxiety

  • With therapy, like many rewarding things in life, the more you put into it, the more you’ll get out of it. Doing work each day in support of your treatment will get you feeling better quickly. Clients who truly commit to treatment can start feeling better within days to weeks. Together, we’ll track your progress and adjust treatment as needed to make sure you’re feeling as good as possible.

  • Research shows the best therapeutic outcomes come from the combination of therapy AND medication, versus either one on their own. However, I understand that some people prefer to start with therapy and then will consider meds later if they aren’t feeling as good as they’d like. I’m on board with that, with the exception of folks who are having self-harm or suicidal thoughts, or whose depression is so severe that they’re struggling to meet their basic needs.

  • Some people, perhaps due to genetics or difficult circumstances, have depression or anxiety across their lifespan. However, even if you’ve been depressed or anxious for a very long time, therapy that is grounded in research-backed treatments, catered to your specific needs, can improve your outlook, including how you look at life and how you feel.
